Help! Remote Learning Continues…

Here we are, once again, “remote learning.” We have many families asking about tutor/nanny hybrids. Is this something we can help with? Do we have nannies interested in this? What about all the teachers who are remote teaching…Are they available? We’ll try to answer your questions and shed a bit of light on options for fall.

Teachers: Let’s talk about teachers first. Teachers are still just as busy (possibly more than a typical school year!) teaching. They are navigating remote learning right along side the rest of us and hopefully all of us are being lovely and supportive to them :) So, while we may have some available nannies with teaching backgrounds, teachers who currently have their own students, are still focused on their classrooms, and we want to keep it that way!

Tutors: Depending on the grade level of your students, many nannies are open to helping with tutoring/remote learning. As stated above, we do have a fair amount of nannies with early education backgrounds, and even nannies without a formal education background can be willing to dive into remote learning. We know many families are exploring “homeschool pods” and smaller circles for social distancing purposes, and to create a sense of community for their kiddos while they aren’t in their classrooms. We can certainly help facilitate candidates for groups of kids. This could be a good, cost saving option for families.

Traditional Nanny: Are your kids old enough to self direct their remote learning, but still need care during the day? Even if parents are working in the home, they still may need someone to help with kids’ meals, help with simple household tasks, or just supervise remote learning. We still have great candidates looking for more traditional roles!

Things to consider

Remote learning is temporary (fingers crossed..), and therefore, you may be looking for a temporary nanny. We can help navigate through the temp process and help understand what that looks like. Since the length of time needed is an unknown factor, we recommend offering your nanny some of the same benefits you would a permanent nanny (i.e. PTO days). We can help your family decide what benefits could be best for your family’s situation. Even for a short time, your nanny will still be a hugely important part of your family. We’re all in this together, and Birch Nannies is here to help support your family through this craziness!
